The world?s mangrove forests are slowly disappearing and many of the remaining forests are in far-flung areas like Ticao Island Resort. In most cases, just like on Ticao Island, the locals do not understand the importance of these mangrove forests. Mrs Nida Calumpong, Professor of Biology at Siliman University, Dumaguete, Philippines took time in October 2010 to visit us at Ticao Island Resort to start the mangrove replanting efforts on Ticao Island and to conduct a seminar with community and department leaders. This project was in conjunction with the visit of Mr Mario Marababol, a marine biologist from Cebu City. During Mario?s visit he conducted a 2-day seminar to impart knowledge to the local community on the importance of mangrove forests and reefs.
