The Masbate province is the “cowboy” country of the Philippines because of its long history of ranches and rodeos. The culture of cattle raising and ranching has been part of Masbate since the Spanish era, 500 years back. The oldest existing ranch in the province is 250 years old! Ticao Island is an island politically owned by Masbate and situated between the Masbate mainland and Sorsogon province. Ticao Island Resort faces the Sorsogon side and is easier to access through the Albay or Sorsogon route.
Being part of the Masbate province, many ranches exist on Ticao Island. Ticao Island Resort is nestled in a 500 hectare ranch which has been operating for almost 100 years. In the spirit of the history of Masbate, Ticao Island Resort shares the chance to ride a horse through the ranch and to visit the untouched and undeveloped beaches that still exist around Ticao Island.
Horseback riding around the resort is free of charge on a schedule set by the resort and by availability of the horses.
Trail Riding (outside the free riding around the resort) costs PHP300 per hour.
Trail riding is only available on schedule and the resort reception needs to be informed ahead of time as the horses need to be prepared ahead of time.
